Algeria. A new era

For years, Algeria focused on expanding its oil and gas industry, but today’s government is keen to diversify the economy and is setting about building up the agricultural and industrial sectors.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika,a founding member of NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa’s Development), is well aware that this can only be achieved with the aid of greater foreign direct investment.

In June, the leaders of the G8 industrialised countries offered to channel around £3.9 billion into the continent.
